Stupid Worthless American Major Media Outlets

Today, I'll blame the media. Lead stories on several media outlets lead off with the Dick Cheney shooting story. They're shocked, shocked to find out there was some attempt to keep it quiet or to spin the news.

This should not have been any surprise. Why the disingenuity? Let's face it, this is simply a story the lowest common denominator can wrap its brain around. An unpopular VP fragging a fellow hunter is much easier to figure out than repeated charges of abuse at Abu Ghraib, the spread of Avian Influenza in Europe and Africa, the chaos in Haiti, or the massive US national debt.

Major American news institutions, like the politicians, are bought and paid for. They are beholden to corporations and major families and will never sing songs no-one wants to hear. They quashed Gary Webb's accurate expose of the connection between the CIA, Contras, and crack cocaine. The papers are great for wrapping fish, but little else. The websites and television broadcasts? Completely useless except as a study of how effectively they serve as propaganda arms of the government.

Doubt what I say? Then I challenge any observer to find a questioner at a White House press conference who asks a really probing question. I challenge anyone to find a major media arm jeapordizing its precious access to government sources by examining it harshly. I challenge anyone to find a major media group that will consider views other than major voices in the two dominant political parties.

If you find an honest journalist, you might be able to get him liquored enough to get him to talk about all the stories he couldn't write. And why couldn't he write them? He needed a job. He lives in fear. He can be buried for telling the truth because there are men in the pay of those higher ups, who work for "The Man", willing to live without conscience and beat truth to the ground long enough for them to protect those who could be harmed by it while they yet live.

Where should you go? Try BBC News for a start. Or Democracy Now! These are great sites, and they're not paid for by the major US powerbrokers. Inform yourself, citizen! Arm yourself with knowledge! Truth is the greatest weapon against oppression, so turn off the sources that lie on behalf of their owners and turn toward those who strive for telling the real stories.
