The Enemy of the Enemy of my Enemy's Friend's Enemy...
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
Bush in Pakistan recently announced he did not oppose an Iranian natural gas pipeline to Pakistan and India. Seems as though the 800-pound gorilla has lost some weight. In exchange for India's assistance against Iranian nuclear aspirations, the US now has to allow Iranian natural gas to flow to India.
Sad thing is, Iran's likely to get nuclear weapons anyway, what with the recent change for the worse in Iraq. The US won't be able to get itself easily disentangled from that mess, especially if it actually chooses a side to support. Meanwhile, Iran pushes for nukes, gets them, and then stands defiant of any US moves. It will endear itself to India and China and put the squeeze on Pakistan and if the US wants to be friends with them, too, it'll have to play along with Iran's aspirations.
And thus we see the importance of not invading other countries on falsified ideological reasons. There was also that bit about never getting involved in a land war in Asia, but that was from a silly movie. Can't possibly be true, can it?
